Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical family on August 9th, 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel superstar Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. as well as a cousin of the singing sensation Dionne Warwick. The singer began her singing career in the choir at her church The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark when she was a child at the age of 15 was singing backing vocals professionally along with the mother of her on Chaka Khans 1978 hit Im Every Woman. Her mother, Jermaine and Lou Rawls were among those who she sang with. The singer was also as a model for Seventeen Magazine in 1981. Her first gig was as a lead vocalist for the New York-based New York Funk band Material. Her quality of vocal work earned her the attention of big record labels like Arista where she signed up in 1983. Whitney Houston became the top-selling debut single for a new artist in 1985. A number of hit singles, such as Saving All My Love For You How Do I know You Give Good Love as well as The greatest Love of All were released from the album, setting her up to smash the Beatles record with seven consecutive US top 10s. It was the first US year, the album was sold over 3 million units. It went on to be listened to by more than millions of people around the world which earned her her first Grammy. The Whitney album from 1987, featuring the tracks I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to, continued her success. But it is The Bodyguard of 1992 that turned her into one of the top-selling musicians in recent history. The movie and her role in it were not very appreciated, but the music and her interpretation of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You was a hit for a few months in the charts, and she sold more than 44 million singles and albums all over the world. That same year she was married to Bobby Brown who was a former New Edition singer. She had their sole daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown in the month of March, 1993. In 1996 her daily use of drugs was documented.
Dana Bash (also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz) is a CNN anchor and political reporter. She has produced shows for CNN, including Evans & Novak' Late Editionand Inside Politics'. Coming to her awards and honors Bash was previously included in the Women in Washington Power List' by Elle magazine.
